Custom Optical Filters Manufacturer & Factory

Interference and absorptive filters designed to your light budget — bandpass to solar, sensing to cinema.

Capability & Process

The Optical Component Line Behind the Consumer Brand

Hemusun's oldest business is custom optical components: windows, mirrors, lenses, prisms, beamsplitters and filters machined and coated to customer drawings. We have produced 5,000+ distinct lens types over more than a decade, with 60%+ of front-line technicians holding 10+ years of optical machining experience. Verification runs on ZYGO and VECCO interferometers, spherical-diameter meters and Shimadzu spectrophotometers, so surface accuracy and coating curves are measured, not assumed.

The workflow covers the whole chain in-house: rough and fine grinding, polishing, core taking, coating, gluing, blackening, cleaning, assembly — with ISO9001-controlled milestones at each transfer. Buyers get component traceability that most trading-company suppliers simply cannot provide.

Filter Types We Manufacture

Bandpass and dichroic (longpass/shortpass) interference filters for sensing and machine vision; neutral density and graduated density for photography; special-effect filters for the creative retail market — wire-drawing, black-mist and fireworks filters, which turn point light into starbursts, soften highlight bloom, and stretch lights into filaments; plus solar filters for astronomy kits and UV/protection filters for instrument windows. Coating design is per-application: center wavelength, half-band, OD blocking and transmission bands come from your spec sheet or from a joint definition call.

How a Custom Optics Quote Actually Runs

Send a drawing — or a paragraph. A functional description ('block 532 nm pump, pass 850 nm, uncoated back surface, 25 mm square, 500 pieces') is enough to start; we will return coating design questions, a tolerance proposal, and a sample plan. Prototypes on standard substrates run one to two weeks; coating campaigns on custom designs follow the next available coater slot. NRE and volume price break points are quoted up front, so a pilot-to-production ramp is a spreadsheet conversation, not a renegotiation.

By Application

Machine vision & sensing

Bandpass and edge filters matched to LED/laser lines (450/532/660/850/940 nm) with hard coatings for outdoor enclosures; OD4-6 blocking typical.

Astronomy

Moon and solar filters, nebula/dust bandpasses, dual-band astro designs; UV/IR cut pairs for astronomy cameras.

Photography & film

Black mist and wire-drawing (cross-screen) effects, fireworks streak filters, graduated ND sets — the creative-retail lines that stock in display boxes.

Instrument & medical

Windows with integrated ND or bandpass, neutral density stepped sets, beam-splitter cubes for illumination paths.

Frequently Asked Questions

Hard or soft coatings?

Hard (ion-assisted e-beam) for outdoor, cleaning-exposed and high-humidity duty; soft for controlled indoor optics where cost rules. We recommend per environment and the datasheet states the process.

What about angle-of-incidence shifts?

Bandpass centers blue-shift with AOI; designs are specified at your working angle — quote AOI with the rest, and edge steepness is budgeted against it.

Can you match a competitor's filter?

Given a measured spectrum, we match functionally and often improve the blocking or environmental spec. Send the part or its curve; we return a design comparison before any tooling talk.

Lead time for a prototype?

One to two weeks on standard substrates; custom designs follow the next coater campaign, typically two to four weeks, quoted with NRE fixed.

Send a drawing — or a paragraph.

Coating design proposals, tolerance advice and tiered pricing, from the engineers who run the coater.
